Will an Outdoor Stairlift Fit My Stairs?
Before you decide to buy an outdoor stairlift, you should know whether your current staircase has the right requirements to have a stairlift installed on it. In general, most stair lifts fit most staircases. However, there are some specific measurements you need to know depending on what type of staircase you have:
If you own a straight staircase:
The distance between the wall on one side of your staircase to the other side should be around 29” wide. This is only a general guideline and can change based on your individual staircase.
If you own a curved staircase:
It’s best to leave it to the professionals to know if a stairlift will fit. Almost all curved stairlifts are custom-made, so it can be tough to find the right measurements without help.
When folding up your stairlift:
Your stairlift will take up between 11” to 16” away from the wall when it’s not in use to allow others to go up and down the stairs. How much room people have to walk around the stairlift will depend on how wide your staircase is.
